A description of facial expression capture

Facial expression capture is the process of digitising an actor's performance into a special format. The format represents expressions without containing any information about the actor's appearance. For example the word "smiling" conveys a facial expression without telling us the nationality, sex, etc of the subject. We capture a very detailed description of an expression. This is achieved as follows...

The face has many muscles that are used to form expressions. Each muscle may be relaxed, fully tensed, or somewhere between. If we quantify how much each muscle is tensed, then we have a basic record of an expression. The service we provide turns video footage of an actor into a data stream of muscle information.
